eucalptus oil
any expectorant oils
tea tree
pine
peppermint
peppermint tea
caffeine
enhances respiration in the smog
green tea, coffee, guarana, cola, coca
filtrate your home air
vacuum the dust
clean the window screens frequently
this works for me bc i have long hair
wash hair frequently and let it air dry. it will provide a screen of humidity around your person for an hour or two. it can also be used to cover the face when crossing the street through exceptionally bad smog.
cover your face when cycling, walking, or running through the smog.
strategic breathing. my friend taught me this. take a deep breath of fresher air as you approach dense traffic. then minimize inhalation until you get to a reduced area of smog. this works well for traffic clogged intersections.
walk on the inside of the sidewalk. studies have shown air quality gets worse the closer you get to the street. even something as small as deciding to walk closer to the buildings on a city block can save your lungs a bit.
drink lots of juice.
cigarette smokers have reduced absorbtion of beta-carotene, and so like too, do smog-breathers, by my guess. drink carrot juice and other detoxing juices.
drink extra liquids, but keep trck of your electrolytes. if you skip eating often and eat low sodium, your electrolytes may get out of balance. if you are craving salty soup like, celery juice, or salty chips, ou might be drinking too much water.

use sauna or hot water to open your smog-filled pores
moisturize, the smog and dry heat will dry out your skin and nasal passages. when i first moved to socal in 2003, i began to go through huge amomounts of commercial moisturizer. now i prefer natural food-grade edible oils preferably organic, such as coconut, olive, grapeseed, and thick shea butter.
take the train. while the air underground is stuffy and dead, it has less smog smell and direct exhaust fumes.
